Application Specific Designs for Switching Reactive Power
With a growing shift towards renewable power generation, distributed energy resources (DER) are being called upon more often throughout multiple points of system interconnection with the transmission system. This has exposed many critical issues with traditional devices that are not designed to effectively withstand the voltage transients, current chopping, and equipment stresses associated with reactive power compensation that can lead to catastrophic damages to the capacitor, reactor, switching device, and/or adjacent system components.
