Vertical interrupters for tight substations

This compact, transformer-ready switcher safely interrupts TRVs and fits where breakers can’t.

The CSV circuit switcher, Southern States’ vertical interrupter design, commonly referred to as the “candlestick,” is a definite purpose switcher for transformer protection in space-constrained substations. Its vertical puffer style interrupters are optimized for handling the fast transient recovery voltages (TRVs) seen during transformer-limited faults, where general-purpose breakers may fall short.

With a compact footprint and simplified design, the CSV installs quickly and uses far less gas than dead tank breakers. It can also be specified with an integral Southern States disconnect switch — either a double sidebreak (CSV-DB) or center break (CSV-CB) — both available in manual or motorized configurations. Each unit ships mostly assembled and tested from the factory, with only minimal disassembly required to meet shipping constraints.

Key Benefits:

  1. Compact footprint and reduced gas volume compared to dead tank breakers
  2. Designed for transformer faults, handling fast TRVs reliably
  3. Factory-assembled and tested, with minimal disassembly for shipping
  4. Gas system includes remote monitoring, visual gauge, and safety features
  5. Quick installation with flexible baseplate and reversible NEMA pads
  6. Customizable structure height and mounting to suit existing substation layouts
  7. Integral disconnect options: double sidebreak (CSV-DB) or center break (CSV-CB)
  8. Backed by Southern States' 24/7 after-sales support and long-life engineering
