Designed for today’s capacitor banks, this switcher integrates closing resistors to reduce transients, eliminate the need for reactors, and extend system life.

Southern States’ CapSwitcher® is a definite purpose-built, puffer style capacitor switcher engineered to meet the transient mitigation needs of today’s power systems. Designed for use with single or back-to-back medium and high voltage capacitor banks, it features integrated closing resistors to suppress harmful transients that affect sensitive customer equipment and utility infrastructure alike.

Unlike traditional switching devices that require separate inrush reactors, the CapSwitcher® minimizes inrush current by design—reducing complexity while improving reliability. Circuit making occurs in gas rather than air, extending equipment life and ensuring consistent performance. With tested restrike-free operation, mechanically gang-operated spring mechanisms, and single-gap puffer interrupters per phase, the CapSwitcher® delivers dependable switching for 10,000 operations.
