Product Design Engineer II

Location: Hampton, Georgia

Job Function:

The Product Design Engineer will work within the Design Engineering group to provide support for the vacuum switchgear product lines overseeing product updates, quality improvements, resolving production issues, and engineering customer specific requirements.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • This engineer will primarily be a product engineer for the outdoor vacuum switchgear product lines
  • Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for Southern States products using Solidworks
  • Assist Manufacturing, Production, and Sales on projects in the areas of problem resolution, quality assurance, fit and finish, testing, and coordination
  • Simulate customer applications using PSCAD to find solutions that best fit their needs
  • Develop, conduct, and document quality and type tests
  • Write assembly instructions, instructions books, and other quality documents
  • Must be willing to occasionally travel, domestically and internationally, (5-10% of time) to customer sites and test labs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience: Two to seven years of related work experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD/SolidWorks.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in FEA computer analysis.
