Southern
States CSV vertical interrupter ("candlestick") circuit switcher
expands Southern States circuit switcher line to fit shrinking substation
space requirements. The CSV brings circuit breaker capabilities into the circuit switcher market and is available for applications involving power transformer switching and protection, capacitor switching (non-transient mitigating) and protection, reactor switching and protection, bus switching and protection, and line switching and protection.
The CSV is also available with an integral double end break “Vee” switch (model CSV-DB) and with an integral center break “Vee” switch (model CSV-CB). These switches can be specified by the customer to be either manually operated or motor operated. The CSV, the CSV-DB, and the CSV-CB are also available in stored energy models (CSV-SE, CSV-DB-SE, and CSV-CB-SE) for substations which do not have a DC battery source. The stored energy models are furnished with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and a customer specified digital protection relay and can also be furnished with a capacitor trip device, if desired. Also, if desired, any of the CSV versions (CSV, CSV-SE, CSV-DB, CSV-DB-SE, CSV-CB, and CSV-CB-SE) can be furnished with a CMDTM three phase non-contact non-saturating current transformer to provide phase overcurrent protection, enabling the fault interrupting capability of the circuit switcher if the power transformer has no CTs of its own and/or extending the zone of protection to include the primary side power transformer bushings and arresters (as the primary side power transformer bushings and arresters are not in the zone of protection covered by primary side power transformer bushing CTs).

The
CSV's vertical interrupter design provides an installation which consumes
a minimum of substation space. Other key features include fast interrupting speed, single gap puffer interrupters with long contact life and multi-time fault closing capability, remote gas monitoring via a gas system with low pressure alarm and low pressure lockout contacts, and adaptability to a wide variety of structure height, phase spacing, column spacing, and anchor bolt spacing requirements.
