HOOKSTICK SWITCHES
Hookstick Switches - Substation Class and Distribution Class
Rugged. Robust. Long-life reliable. Common descriptions for Southern States line of single phase, hookstick operated switches. Available in both NEMA rated 30 degrees C rise designs and ANSI rated 53 degrees C rise designs Southern States hookstick switch types perform a variety of tasks from no-load disconnecting of various products to regulator bypassing to recloser bypassing to transferring loads from one circuit to another.
Disconnect
Switches - Substation Class
Southern States heavy-duty, copper live part construction single phase hookstick operated switches are ideally suited for circuit breaker isolation, recloser isolation, potential transformer isolation, current transformer isolation, and no-load isolation of essentially any substation equipment. Years of proven performance in the harshest environments (seismic applications, wind blown sand, salt spray corrosion, high temperature, high humidity, etc.) have made Southern States disconnect switches the product of choice for many of the most demanding customers. Characteristics of Southern States single phase hookstick switches include rigid blades, large hook-eyes, positive latches, channel bases (single channel at 72.5 kV and below, double channel for 121 kV, 145 kV, and 169 kV units) or single piece cast bases (for "V" configuration hookstick switches), adjustable position blade stops (90 degrees, 135 degrees, or 180 degrees), and single piece cast bronze or cast copper terminal pads (offered unplated as standard but tin plating is provided when specified). ANSI 70 gray porcelain station post insulators are furnished as standard but chocolate porcelain station post insulators or non-porcelain insulators (polymer insulators, epoxy insulators, etc.) can be furnished if specified. All hookstick switches 48.3 kV and below are shipped with insulators factory assembled and adjusted as standard, while 72.5 kV through 169 kV ratings can be furnished insulators factory assembled and adjusted for an additional charge if specified. Unless underhung mounting is specified by customer, on disconnect switches shipped with the insulators factory assembled and adjusted the insulator skirt orientation will be configured for vertical mounting of the switch. The table below shows the various models and ratings of Southern States substation class hookstick operated disconnect switches.
Bypass
Switches-Substation Class and Distribution Class
Whether your need is regulator bypassing or recloser bypassing in a substation or on a distribution line Southern States has the bypass switch for your application. The PBO-R and the PBO-R1 are the substation class offerings (with the same design characteristics as the PBO and the PBO-1 hookstick switches), while the PKR and the PKMR are the distribution class offerings. All four model types are three pull, non-sequenced bypass switches which allow bypassing of the voltage regulator or the recloser without service interruption. The table below shows the ratings of these models.
Tandem Transfer Switches-Substation Class
If you need to be able to transfer load from one circuit to another then Southern States type PBO-T and type PBO-T1 tandem transfer hookstick operated switches are the products to choose. Both are substation class hookstick switches with the same design characteristics as the PBO, PBO-1, PBO-R, and PBO-R1. The table below shows the ratings of these models.
For any of your hookstick switch applications choose Southern States, the proven performer in high voltage switches for more than 90 years, and rest easy knowing you made the right choice for reliability, ruggedness, and long-life performance.
